We had a wonderful Gala, presenting the Tom Bradley Award to Tommy Lasorda. The proceeds from the evening supported the Los Angeles Christian School and related ministries.
It was a night to remember. We were concerned that the blazing wildfires that ringed our city would prevent many from coming--and, in fact, several were unable to attend because of closed freeways or devastation to their homes, or those of their friends. (The fire came perilously close to pastor Jack Hayford's home).
We were delighted that the Stadium Club was full. People enjoyed the peanuts, popcorn and crackerjacks--and vigorously participated in the silent auction.
Craig T. Nelson, our dear friend and MC, started the evening with a hearty welcome and navigated us through a delightful program.
Pastor Jack Hayford prayed for our city in turmoil (as no one else could) and for our ministry and the evening. Of special delight, Lorraine Bradley, daughter of the Mayor, attended. She loved the newly commissioned bust of her father (which was the award given to Lasorda) and the night in general. She assured me, "I will see you next year!
But the highlight of the event was Tommy Lasorda--what an incredible man, representative of America and fellow believer in Jesus. He was remarkable. He signed every program and baseball brought to him--and then offered to stay after the program and have his picture taken with all who attended. I believe everyone stayed--the smiles were incredible. Tommy Lasorda has certainly become one of my heroes--a genuinely great man--who loves the Lord and his neighbors.
For those of you attended--you know. For others--you missed an incredible evening.
God bless you all!
